Description

The thing I love about antique salt-bags and bags in general, is the multiple weaving techniques in just one bag that you don't find in rugs. That is what makes them so interesting from a weaving point of view.
In this fabulous namakdan, the weaver has created the lower chevron pattern in reciprocal brocading with the upper horizontal bands in weftless soumak and tapestry technique, and the back of the bag in plain-weave.
Made by Lors nomads in the Kohkiluyeh region of Luristan during the last quarter 19th century, the namakdan is in excellent condition and complete with hanging cords on either side of the neck.
Size: 60 x 40cm (2' 0" x 1' 4").
Viewing by appointment only.
