antique khamseh confederacy rug southwest persia

Antique Khamseh Confederacy Rug, South-West Persia

Item Ref

A fabulous 'chicken' ('murghi' in Persian) rug of the Khamseh Confederacy Baharlu tribe of south-west Persia, made circa 1860-1870.
The rug is in excellent condition bar a few minor areas in the corners which have been expertly restored - not a concern for such a wonderful, collectable piece. The weave is extremely fine indicating a very important rug to its original owner. The field is literally filled with chickens, all pecking at seeds on the ground!
Size: 1.78m x 1.30m (5' 10" x 4' 3").
Viewing by appointment only.
Internal Ref: BM403
