Description

Illustrated in my third edition 'Tribal Rugs - Treasures of the Black Tent' on page 51, I sold this beautiful Yomut Turkmen spindle-bag 'igsalyk' back in the early 1990s and now back with me, sadly from a deceased estate.
It has been well looked after and is in as great condition as when I sold it back then. The design on the knotted-pile face is unusual, comprising '8-pointed stars' within large stars. The ground colour is cochineal dyed whereas the very outer border is in madder-red as is the plain-weave back.
Made around 1880 by Yomut tribes in the trans-Caspian Steppe area, the bag is complete with original tassels and braided hanging cords and is in excellent condition.
Size: 49 x 28cm (1' 7" x 11") excluding tassels.
Viewing by appointment only.
