A magnificent rug, just arrived, and made by the Baharlu sub-tribe of the Khamseh Confederacy in Fars Province, south-west Persia circa 1870-1880.
Around the central triple lozenge design is an indigo-blue ground with a myriad of stylised flowers and birds. The main red border also contains flowers and this time, stylised peacocks abound.
In excellent overall pile with no restoration whatsoever, this is a truly beautiful example of a lost woven art!
